Running a regular system update recently produced the error message:
“Failed to fetch http://packages.medibuntu.org/ dists/precise/free/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found”
Initially, I thought that this was a transient glitch with a repository being off line or some such issue; however, the problem re-occurred on the following day.
A little research determined that the medibuntu repository has essentially been abandoned and is off-line. So, in order to avoid the error, it is necessary to remove the repository from Software Sources.
This is easily achieved by navigating to: System – Preferences – Software Sources – Other Software. Highlight the entry for “http://packages.medibuntu.org/precise”, press the Remove button, and provide the root password to authenticate and complete the request.
